It is a wonderful piece and I applaud the argument that the next world war is not likely.
What has come to my mind while reading the piece is that yet another factor working against the next world war is the vested interests of the arms industries which gain by the continuation of the wars in the present state and not by ending the wars by the next world war.
I am however hopeful that the premier international organisation is not completely dysfunctional. To argue, immediately, after 7 October, the entire world opinion was with Israel. Now it has changed save two nations. One of these has even signalled that its support cannot be taken for granted. This has happened because of among other reasons, the UNSC's ability to shape world opinion by flagging the issues daily basis.
Amidst the bombing of Gaza, the assault on Rafah has been delayed giving one more month of breathing time to innocent civilians in Gaza (it can happen anytime) and UNRWA is still on the ground. Besides the parties to the conflicts regularly using this platform to argue their cases, there is not alternative at least for now.
